GateGourmet, the in-flight caterer for all long-haul British Airways flights from London Heathrow airport, has announced plans to make the majority of its meals halal.
The decision has been proposed to reduce costs and increase profits for the company, with a potential boost in demand from Middle Eastern and Asian airlines.
At present, most airlines will provide a halal option, although the meals are prepared, stored and transportation separately to comply with Muslim dietery rules.
“My aim is to make our large hub operations halal compliant,” said Guy Dubois from GateGroup. “If I produce everything according to halal standards, I will reduce complexity and increase cost effectiveness” (...)
