You On Friday 27 January 2017 I was present to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.
East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire Councils held a joint event in the school with a programme of events to highlight this year’s theme of “How Can Life Go On?”
The introduction was provided by the Head Girl and Boy – Nuala McBride and Christopher Stewart – with music by the East Renfrewshire Schools’ Senior String Orchestra which, of course, contains a number of the talented musicians from S3 to S6, and who are conducted by a former parent of the school Mr Gerard Doherty.
The guest speaker was Amal Azzudin – well known campaigner and human rights activist, whose story was turned into the play ‘The Glasgow Girls’.
The event was attended by parents, members of our community, local politicians and dignitaries and the Director of Education Mhairi Shaw.
On Friday S6 pupils Florence Cairns and Lauren McCarthy will begin a series of presentations to pupils in the school about their participation in the ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ programme.
Nuala and Chris are pictured with guest speaker – Amal Azzudin – and Depute Head Girl – Claire Currie and Depute Head Boy – Patrick Entwistle.
