Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Wednesday that he would be freezing planned steps to ease conditions for Palestinians in the West Bank in light of the recent wave of Palestinian violence in Jerusalem.

“In recent years, in the wake of the last decade’s terrorism wave, checkpoints have been erected and roads have been closed,” the defense minister said during an inquiry session at the Knesset.

“Due to an improvement in security that began after Operation Defensive Shield and lasted until recently, steps have been taken to ease [these restrictions]. These administrative efforts included understandings with regard to reopening more roads in the future, but due to the escalation, these steps have been frozen,” he said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also ordered the security establishments o take a number of operational steps to combat terror in the immediate aftermath of Tuesday’s massacre at a synagogue in Jerusalem’s Har Nof neighborhood.

Netanyahu issued a directive to destroy the two terrorists’ homes after an emergency security consultation he convened in his office. He also ordered to step up the demolition of the homes of terrorists who carried out recent attacks.

One such demolition was carried out early Wednesday morning when the IDF demolished the east Jerusalem home of the terrorist who killed infant Chaya Zisel Braun and a woman from Ecuador last month when he rammed his vehicle into a crowd of people at a light rail station.

Netanyahu also ordered significantly ratcheting up law enforcement against those guilty of incitement.

The other measures include deploying four more companies of Border Patrol officers, reinforcing police patrols across the country with civil guard and police volunteers, setting up more checkpoints in Arab areas of east Jerusalem and ordering that Tuesday’s attackers be buried outside of Jerusalem.
