Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat may be slated to become the nation’s next Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, Channel 10 News reports. The report states that Barkat told close associates that he and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu reached agreement on the appointment during recent meetings.
The slot is currently held by Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett, who is also Economy Minister and Minister of Religious Services.
It appears the prime minister will exercise his prerogative and appoint Barkat to one of the slots reserved for him to use his own discretion, the 11th and 23rd slots on the party ticket. It appears the two have probed the legality of having the mayor serve in both slots simultaneously.
