Thanks to all your efforts - and the efforts of thousands of people like you - the referendum saw a decisive vote to keep Scotland part of the United Kingdom. But the threat hasn't passed. The SNP have already stated that they want to try again, and soon. They are planning on using May's General Election to make it happen. Nicola Sturgeon may have spent the referendum campaign saying she didn't believe in Westminster and no longer wanted Scotland to send any MP's to the House of Commons, but suddenly she's changed her tune. She's talking up an electoral pact between Labour and the SNP, with Alex Salmond heading back to London to seal the deal. The election is another four months off, and yet Nicola Sturgeon and Ed Miliband are already half way down the aisle. Think what it would mean - a weak Ed Miliband as Prime Minister with the SNP pulling the strings. Just when families and businesses need some security, the Nationalists would plunge us back into an uncertain world. And putting Labour into Downing Street would leave Ed Miliband and Ed Balls back in charge of the economy. Remember the note they left for us in 2010 telling us that there was no money left? I don't want to see Britain being run into the ground by a Labour-SNP pact. And I, for one, didnt fight to secure our future last year just to see Ed Miliband or Nicola Sturgeon throw it all away. The truth is that the Scottish Conservatives are the only option in Scotland if you want to keep the UK together and keep Ed Miliband out of Downing Street. The Scottish Conservatives believe in the United Kingdom - we've fought for it, we care about it, and we won't let others break up Britain against the wishes of the Scottish people. That's why we need to people like you to vote for a strong pro-Union party and for a Prime Minister who won't do a deal with the SNP that puts our country at risk. The Conservatives are working hard to make sure Scotland - and Britain - stay on the road to recovery. Under David Cameron, we have seen the economy grow, more people find work, and the deficit cut to stop our children having to pay for our country's debts. Let's stay on that road - a strong Prime Minister that will always stand up to the SNP and speak up for keeping our country together. And economic recovery which helps Scotland grow again. A responsible government that sorts out the economy now, and doesn't pass massive debts to our children. Last year, I fought to keep our country together. This year I'm fighting for that too. The Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party will always stand up for Scotland in Britain, and will always stand up to those who want to break our country apart. So this year - like last year - I'm asking for your support. I'm asking you to vote for the only party which can keep us on track. That's the Scottish Conservative party.
Yours, |
