Derby to become a sister-city to Hebron

Derby City Council said its “sisterhood” with Hebron would not be a formal twinning arrangement ......Instead there would be through a “memorandum of understanding”. This would be “a cultural, political and economic exchange based on the shared values of tolerance and respect”.

David Wilder, Councilman and Spokesman for the Jewish Community of Hebron is delighted. He said:

“Shalom to the Derby City Council Members,

I read with great interest the Council's plans to become a 'sister city' with Hebron. This is an excellent idea and I congratulate you on this prospective city-twinning.

As a councilman on the Hebron elected council, I welcome you aboard. I hope that you will visit with us, and that we will be able to send representatives from our community to visit you too, in Derby.

Hebron is quite an ancient city, which is actually the roots of all of monotheism, being the home of the Patriarch Abraham and the Matriarch Sarah. It literally has 'something for everyone.'

I look forward to meeting you and other members of your community when visiting here. Please be in touch with me. It will be my honour and pleasure to host you here in this holy city, and escort you on a full tour.

Thank you very much for your concern and interest”.
