We’re living in fear of attacks over Gaza, say Scottish Jews

STEPHEN HOUSE, the chief constable of Police Scotland, will be warned this week that a wave of anti-semitic abuse has left Jewish people living in fear of harrasment and retribution.

The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCOJEC) will round off a series of high-level meetings when it sits down with the country’s most senior police officer. In the last nine days, they have met with Alex Salmond, the first minister and Frank Mulholland, the lord advocate, in the wake of a backlash against Scottish Jews because of the conflict in Gaza.

In the last six weeks, the police have received reports of more than 35 antisemitic incidents, of which more than 25 have been classified as crimes. In more than half of these the likely perpetrator has been identified, and reports will be made to the procurator fiscal who will decide whether to prosecute.

  1. I would not have expected this to happen in Scotland. A disappointment and a shame.
