Algeria Still Refusing to Admit it Support For Meceneries In Libya

Algeria rebuffs "sending mercenaries" accusation of Libyan rebels

Algeria rebuffed Tuesday Libyan rebels' Transitional National Council (TNC) accusation that it sent mercenaries there, saying the charges are "irresponsible," the official APS news agency reported.

Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued Tuesday that TNC has unfairly accused Algeria of supporting "mercenary operations" in Libya, despite that the Algerian authorities have denied the accusation.

"This irresponsible obstinacy to involve the Algerian authorities at all costs, makes us wonder about the intentions and motivation of those behind this conspiracy against a country blamed because it has refused to interfere in the Libyan interior affairs, deplored the disproportionate use of force and warned against the deadly dangers of the infiltration of terrorist groups in the Libyan territory," said the statement.

Libyan rebels said on Sunday that they had captured 15 Algerian mercenaries and killed three others in the eastern town of Ajdabiya.

Rebels regularly denounce the presence of mercenaries, particularly from Africa, among the forces loyal to the embattled Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
