Finchley and Golders Green’s MP will accompany David Cameron on a visit to Israel and Palestinian territories for talks with major players in the Middle East peace process.

Mike Freer was invited to join David Cameron tomorrow on the premier’s first visit to Israel since he entered Downing Street.

Former Barnet Council leader Mr Freer was invited because of his links with the large number of Jewish communities in his constituency and said he felt privileged to be attending his first foreign visit with the PM.

He told the Times Series: “It is fantastic – a great opportunity to see what goes on during these trips and to help spread the Prime Minister’s message.

“I’m hoping to connect with the Israeli people and the trip allows me to have a deeper understanding of the issues facing Israel and the Israelis.

“It is important they are educated about our position and I am educated about theirs.”

Mr Freer plans to fly out later this evening before meeting up with the Prime Minister tomorrow morning.

During the visit, Mr Cameron will address the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, on Wednesday, and meet his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as discuss the conflict with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

The visit was postponed last month because of the flooding crisis in the UK.
