I am deeply concerned that Shoaib Assadullah Musawi remains in prison in Afghanistan on charges of having converted from Islam to Christianity. Please personally call the Afghan ambassador TODAY and demand that Afghanistan free Shoaib Assadullah Musawi immediately and permit him and his family to depart the country if they wish to.
Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and the rights to life, liberty, and due process of law are some of our fundamental American values. Please convey to the Afghan ambassador that if the Afghan government does not show basic respect for the right to life, liberty, and freedom of religious choice, many Americans will begin to question whether we should continue to send our own children to fight and die on its behalf or continue to support it financially.
Please ensure that Afghanistan fulfills its obligations as a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and that all Afghans are free to practice the religious faith of their choice without fear of prosecution, intimidation, or harm.

Dear President Karzai -
I am deeply concerned by reports that Christians in Afghanistan have been imprisoned for converting from Islam and are now facing possible execution. I ask that you free Shoaib Assadullah Musawi immediately and permit him and his family to depart the country if they wish to.
In America, all people are free to choose their own religion, to change their religion, and to practice it without fear of harm. Respecting freedom of religion is one of our core American values. If Afghanistan continues imprisoning or even executing people for their religious faith, it will be difficult for Americans to continue justifying sending our soldiers to risk their lives fighting in Afghanistan to support your government, and difficult for us to justify continuing to send billions of dollars in aid every year.
Please ensure that Afghanistan fulfills its obligations as a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and that all Afghans are free to practice the religious faith of their choice without fear of prosecution, intimidation, or harm.

Dear Ambassador Tanin,
I am deeply concerned by reports that Christians in Afghanistan have been imprisoned for converting from Islam and are now facing possible execution. I ask that you free Shoaib Assadullah Musawi immediately and permit him and his family to depart the country if they wish to.
In America, all people are free to choose their own religion, to change their religion, and to practice it without fear of harm. Respecting freedom of religion is one of our core American values. I am a strong supporter of America's continuing military and financial support for the government of Afghanistan. However, if Afghanistan continues imprisoning or even executing people for their religious faith, it will be difficult for Americans to continue justifying sending our soldiers to risk their lives fighting in Afghanistan to support your government, and difficult for us to justify continuing to send billions of dollars in aid every year.
I cannot overstate the importance of this point. If Afghanistan does not respect the right to life and freedom of religious choice of its own people, your mission as Ambassador is hopeless. Americans will not continue to fund and fight for Afghanistan if its government is killing or permitting the killing of innocent people based on their religion.
Please ensure that Afghanistan fulfills its obligations as a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and that all Afghans are free to practice the religious faith of their choice without fear of prosecution, intimidation, or harm.
Please continue your administration's efforts to free Shoaib Assadullah Musawi immediately and permit him and his family to depart the country if they wish to.
As you know, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and the rights to life, liberty, and due process of law are some of our fundamental American values. Please convey to the Afghan government that if it does not show basic respect for the right to life, liberty, and freedom of religious choice, many Americans will begin to question whether we should continue to send our own children to fight and die on its behalf or continue to support it financially.

Ask them to issue press release opposing prosecutions on charges of apostasy and calling for the immediate release of Shoaib Assadullah Musawi and all other people who have been charged with apostasy.
Dear CAIR,
As I am sure you already know, Shoaib Assadullah Musawi, an Afghan citizen who converted from Islam to Christianity, has been arrested in Afghanistan on charges of apostasy. Islamic Sharia law is being used as the justification for his arrest, imprisonment, and potential sentence to death.
I am sure that you do not believe that executing a person for exercising their freedom of religious choice, as guaranteed by Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is either just or what the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, would wish. As you know, in the Holy Quran it is written:
- "There is no compulsion in religion." [Quran, 2:256]
- "Whosoever will, let him believe, and whosoever will, let him disbelieve." [Quran, 18:29]
- "Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion" [Quran, 109:6]
As a supporter of the "We are all Shoaib" campaign, I ask that CAIR issue a public press release opposing prosecutions on charges of apostasy and calling for the immediate release of Shoaib Assadullah Musawi and all other people who have been charged with apostasy. It should not only be American Christian leaders like Rick Warren who are speaking out against executions for religious choice based on Sharia law. Such a tragedy would do enormous harm to the cause of American-Islamic and Christian-Islamic relations. Prominent American Muslims need to speak out against this injustice as well. An innocent man is sitting in prison right now.
