Chief Rabbi Addresses Prayer Service for Missing Teenagers
Last night Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis addressed a crowd of more than 1000 people in a special prayer service held at Hendon United Synagogue for the three Israeli teenagers abducted on Thursday night.
The service, which included passages of tehillim and prayers for the missing teenagers read by, amongst others, Dayan Ehrentreu, Dayan Simon of the London Beth Din and Rav Ari Faust of Bnei Akiva and a Rabbi Alan Kimche, was also addressed by the Israeli Ambassador Daniel Taub who said:
“This is a truly remarkable gathering. That so many people could gather together at such short notice to express their concern and solidarity with three young men they have never met, 3000 miles away, is an astonishing expression of the teaching: All Israel are bound up with each other.”
The Chief Rabbi expressed the community’s solidarity with the boys, their families and all who know them.
“Three young Jewish souls are facing an uncertain future and we must pray without hesitation for their safe and swift return. The house of Israel is in sorrow, and we stand with you and feel your pain”
The Chief Rabbi called on the community to continue praying for the boys and for a lasting peace in the region.
It is believed that the three teenagers were kidnapped by Hamas operatives in the West Bank whilst hitchhiking home, late on Thursday evening.
