Le cancer continue de provoquer la mort des Algériens à des proportions effrayantes. Ceci a autant inquiété les spécialistes au point où des médecins ont tiré la sonnette d’alarme en annonçant un premier plan de lutte contre cette maladie.

Ce plan a été lancé par le ministère de la Santé, de la Population et de la Réforme hospitalière ainsi que des organisations activant dans le domaine socio-sanitaire pour faire face à ce taux de mortalité inquiétant dans le pays.
La secrétaire générale de l’Association Al- Amal «Espoir», Mme Kitab Hamida, a affirmé que 50 Algériens meurent chaque jour à cause du cancer dont 10 femmes atteintes du cancer du sein. Cela a été caractérisé par la propagation de cette maladie d’un côté et les conditions précaires en matière de prise en charge des patients au niveau des hôpitaux et des centres spécialisés.
Elle a ajouté que les efforts déployés par l’État en vue de prendre en charge cette frange de la société n’étaient que lettre morte, en dépit d’importantes sommes d’argent consacrées à la construction des centres spécialisés. Toutefois, il y a un manque flagrant de structures, surtout dans les zones enclavées. Des citoyens habitant ces wilayas sont contraints de parcourir plusieurs kilomètres pour espérer avoir accès aux soins dans la capitale, en l’occurrence.
A cet égard, notre interlocutrice a dit que des personnes atteintes du cancer souffrent également du manque flagrant de traitement. Ajouter à cela les conditions catastrophiques dans l’accueil de ces patients. Malgré la disponibilité relative des médicaments et de la chimiothérapie, plusieurs insuffisances ont été enregistrées ces derniers temps au niveau du Centre Pierre et Marie Curie.
Par ailleurs, le scanner est souvent en panne, ce qui contraint les malades à se rendre dans des cliniques privées pour se faire soigner. Elle a également souligné l’impact négatif des retards enregistrés dans les rendezvous de la chimiothérapie, causés par la surcharge et la pression que connaissent les 5 centres, seulement, qui existent à travers le territoire national.
Ce qui aggrave encore la situation des patients. Parmi les 35.000 nouveaux cas de cancer, recensés annuellement, 28.000 nécessitent des soins de radiothérapie au moment où seulement 7.000 cas sont pris en charge, ce qui nécessite, au moins, la création de 60 nouvelles unités afin de prendre en charge tous les cas.
Le Dr Aouamri Nadir, de son côté, a annoncé que le ministère de la Santé a recensé 130.000 cas de cancer en Algérie. Il a également déclaré que le département de Djamel Ould Abbès a lancé des projets de construction de nouveaux centres anticancéreux dans chaque wilaya, à l’horizon 2014. Ceci en application du plan national pour la lutte contre le cancer.
L’augmentation des cas de cancer enregistrés dans le pays est due, selon le Docteur Aouamri, à des facteurs climatiques et héréditaires ainsi qu’aux mauvaises habitudes alimentaires des Algériens qui consomment, notamment, des aliments enrichis en graisse. S’ajoute à cela aussi une nutrition non équilibrée et le peu de consommation de fruits et légumes.
Il a souligné, également, que les facteurs favorisant le cancer sont l’air pollué, le tabagisme, les boissons alcoolisées et l’exposition aux rayons du soleil sans protection, notamment pour les enfants.

Thyroid Cancers
The 4 general types of thyroid cancer are papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic. Papillary and follicular carcinoma together are called differentiated thyroid cancer because of their histologic resemblance to normal thyroid tissue and because differentiated function (eg, thyroglobulin secretion) is preserved. Most thyroid cancers present as asymptomatic nodules. Rarely, lymph node, lung, or bone metastases cause the presenting symptoms of small thyroid cancers. Diagnosis is often by fine-needle aspiration biopsy but may involve other tests. Except for anaplastic and metastatic medullary carcinoma, most thyroid cancers are not highly malignant and are seldom fatal. Treatment is surgical removal, usually followed by ablation of residual tissue with radioactive iodine.

SKIN CANCER
Definition
In this discussion we are talking about a lesion with some substance which may be ulcerated or have a palpable component. We are specifically excluding keratoses and other small surface rough patches which may be the precursors of skin cancer.
Use fingers to stretch lesion. Makes it easier to diagnose a BCC
Diagnosis
This is mostly clinical, by observation of the appearance and features of the lesion. Seeing a lot of these and submitting all lesions for histology will increase the accuracy of diagnosis. There are no tests that can compete with experience. Use of magnifying aid is recommended.
