Vile comments were attributed to Richard Ladd, a property sales and marketing consultant at McEwan Fraser Legal, over the weekend
The outburst followed a row between footballers Joey Barton and Yossi Benayoun, an Israeli, over the ongoing Gaza crisis.
One comment attributed to Mr Ladd read: “Shut up you ugly Jewish c***. If only Hitler was still around to sort you out.”
Angry Twitter users turned on him, alerting his East Claremont Street-based employer to the incident.
Mr Ladd was sacked yesterday following talks with bosses at McEwan Fraser Legal, who said they were “horrified” by the remarks.
Neil Morgan, director at the estate agent, said: “No right-thinking person would ever condone this vile, abhorrent language and, as a firm committed to equal opportunities and respect for all regardless of race, colour, religion or gender, we condemn any form of intolerant or discriminatory behaviour.
“Mr Ladd’s employment with our firm was terminated due to gross misconduct after the firm followed the appropriate disciplinary procedure.”
One Twitter user, who asked not to be named, said the incident began after he retweeted remarks made by Barton, a midfielder with English Premier League side Queens Park Rangers.
He said: “I don’t normally get involved in these sorts of things and I didn’t notice the tweet at first, but the next thing I knew this guy had actually answered me back and was slagging off all Jews.
“I thought it was not necessary and rather childish and wrong. I took a screenshot and retweeted it to the police [in Manchester where he lives], but have not had a reply yet.”
Mr Ladd, who is believed to hail originally from Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, is understood to have begun working at McEwan Fraser Legal in April this year.
He moved there from a firm in the Wirral, Merseyside, where he worked at a lettings co-ordinator, following a spell at another estate agent.
Foysol Choudhury, chairman of the Edinburgh & Lothians Regional Equality Council, backed the sacking.
He said: “Any form of anti-Semitic hatred, expressed in different forms should not and cannot be tolerated.
“In the advent of any form of faith-based hate incident or hate crime, we also would want to encourage people to report it to the police.”
Barton and Benayoun’s heated discussion came after the Israel international was involved in an on-pitch scuffle with pro-Palestinian protesters during a recent friendly match.
He branded Barton – no stranger to Twitter rows – “stupid” after he published a host of tweets condemning Israel’s role in the Middle East situation.
Mr Ladd could not be reached for comment. Police Scotland said it had not received a complaint.
