A Breakfast with HE Ambassador Prosor at Giffnock Shul in Glasgow to remember!

HE Ambassador Ron Prosor

On the 21st of February the Ambassador spent two days in Scotland visiting parliament, campus and the community.
His day began with a meeting with the Minister of Justice for Scotland and a tour of the Scottish Parliament. During this meeting future co-operation between Israel and Scotland were discussed. The two also shared their love for football.
HE Prosor then spoke to over 200 students at the university's McEwan Hall. Before the event started, Jewish Society members met with Ambassador to update him on life for Jewish students in Edinburgh. The Ambassador also shared his advice on standing up for Israel on campus. The main event was chaired by Professor Owen Dudley-Edwards. The end of HE Prosor's speech was met with applause before he spent 45 minutes taking questions from students. A small silent protest inside the room did not hamper an exchange of dialogue and ideas.
HE Prosor said: "The embassy never shies away from taking the argument to our detractors - we only ask that they give us the courtesy of listening. In Edinburgh, despite fierce protests outside, an even fiercer case for Israel was able to be made inside."
The following morning the Ambassador spoke to over 50 members of the Glasgow community(including us, members of the SFI). There he told the audience that regional communities should maintain active support for Israel.
Hosted by Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, his meeting was held at Giffnock and Newlands Synagogue and was attended by lay leaders, rabbonim, students and representatives of Israel support groups.
HE Prosor spoke for an hour and then took questions on a wide range of issues. A spokesperson said: "The ambassador urged the community to do as much as they could for Israel. The fight for Israel needs to start with the regional communities and they need to continue to punch above their weight. This grassroots support is the front-line."
The visit was wrapped up with a trip to Glasgow University where the Ambassador met with the Principal and several senior staff of the Glasgow Medical Research Department to discuss planned cooperation with the Weizmann Institute and The University of Tel Aviv. The meeting was a fascinating insight in to the endless possibilities that this partnership could create.
