Thirty years after his time as a young volunteer on Kibbutz Gaash, Mark Hackett returned, this time as Lord Mayor of Manchester. As well as refamiliarising himself with the dairy barn, the Mayor was emotionally reunited with Yael, the daughter of his ‘adopted parents’ on the Kibbutz, Ilan and Avital Karon.
The visit was part of the ‘100 years of the Kibbutz’ anniversary, which encourages as many past volunteers as possible, to revisit their Kibbutz. Everyone should check out the facebook page ahead of the celebration in London (May 2011), and a larger event in Israel in June.
