Gilad Shalit, a 24 year old Israeli, has been languishing in captivity for over four years

Gilad Shalit, a 24 year old Israeli, has been languishing in captivity for over four years, held hostage by the Hamas Terrorist organisation. Contrary to international law, Gilad has been denied all visits, including from organisations such as the Red Cross.

Unlike so many other elements of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the story of Gilad Shalit is not as well-known amongst the wider UK public. For this reason, the Embassy of Israel alongside StandWithUs and other community organisations will be launching a national, two-week Gilad Shalit Awareness Campaign on the 14th of February.

This Awareness Campaign will take place across the UK including events in London, Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham. At its centre will be two ‘Advans’ driving around Central London and Manchester for the two weeks, telling the story of Gilad, alongside the large picture below.

Other Events include: Leafleting will take place in Central London from 14th-25th and in Central Manchester 23rd-25th

SWU will be responsible for leafleting with the van in central London on the 16th and 20th February and people who can help should contact us at:
uk@standwithus.com

Famous Faces: Both the Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks and HE Ambassador Ron Prosor will be amongst the famous faces on the streets of the capital.

Campus events: Students across the UK will be raising awareness at their respective universities.

Solidarity Vigils: 24th of February in London, Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester. These vigils will include eminent speakers, and the releasing of symbolic Chinese lanterns to represent the number of days Gilad Shalit has been held prisoner.
