Algeria activists 'here to speak'
More than 20,000 riot police have been deployed in the Algerian capital, Algiers, as protesters gathered for a pro-democracy rally there.
According to reports, there are hundreds of people in the city centre shouting anti-government slogans and demanding better living conditions and greater freedoms.
Police have positioned armoured vehicles and water cannon in the city centre and have set up road blocks to prevent buses bringing in more protesters. There's also said to be a crowd of supporters of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on the streets.
One of the founders of the Algerian youth movement, Mohammed, told the BBC what he hoped to achieve by Saturday's action.
