I am not an historian, decent author or a journalist, and the chances are that unless there is a link or reference to somewhere else, the perpetrator is yours truly – Renaud Sarda. I created this blog as a focal point, to arm people with arguments and facts that they can perhaps use to counter biased media reporting and anti-Israel propaganda, and to help counter (BDS) campaign. I am a Zionist/Sephardi/Jew who will fly the Israeli flag, and defend whatever Israel does.
Gilad Shalit, a 24 year old Israeli, has been languishing in captivity for over four years, held hostage by the Hamas Terrorist organisation. Contrary to international law, Gilad has been denied all visits, including from organisations such as the Red Cross.
Unlike so many other elements of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the story of Gilad Shalit is not as well-known amongst the wider UK public. For this reason, the Embassy of Israel alongside ten other community organisations will be launching a national, two-week Gilad Shalit Awareness Campaign on the 14th of February.
This Awareness Campaign will take place across the UK including events in London, Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham. At its centre will be two ‘Advans’ driving around Central London and Manchester for the two weeks, telling the story of Gilad, alongside a large picture (see attached).
Other Events include: Leafleting: Central London 14th- 25th. Central Manchester 23rd-25th Famous Faces: Both the Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks and HE Ambassador Ron Prosor will be amongst the famous faces on the streets of the capital. Campus events: Students across the UK will be raising awareness at their respective universities. Solidarity Vigils: 24th of February in London, Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester. These vigils will include eminent speakers, and the releasing of symbolic Chinese lanterns to represent the number of days Gilad Shalit has been held prisoner.
Locations of events will be released nearer the time.
